The Kalm Approach

There is only the present time.  We reminisce about the past in the present and worry about the future in the present.  Positive Psychology helps one to develop resilience, optimism, happiness, motivation, hope and positive thinking.  Self-esteem and well-being are fostered through mindfulness and truly trying to be in the present moment.  Through a strengths-based perspective, I will help you examine how attachment patterns have formed and affect one throughout our lives.  As someone who enjoys working with children, families and adults, I offer structured exercises as well as a place to feel comfortable expressing emotions.

I consider my theory of choice to be somewhat eclectic, with a profound emphasis on Positive Psychology and Adlerian Theory.  Throughout my counseling sessions as well as college lectures, it is evident that I have a strong behavioral background as well.  Another area that I relate to is a mixture of Humanistic Psychology. This balance greatly benefits my clients.  I feel that relationships are a key component to success in life and that can only be accomplished through being optimistic.  To reduce anxiety and depression, mindfulness and exposure therapy can be helpful.  We all have emotions and they should be welcomed but some of us have not learned what to do with these emotions. Session will consist of skill-based work to acknowledge, understand and use emotions as a positive force for our happiness and relationships.  If a person is motivated for change, happiness and great relationships are possible.

It is evident that I have a deep interest in families as well as adult relationships.  I also believe strongly in the concept of behavioral medicine; how the mind and the body are interconnected.  I have a robust passion for neuroscience and how the brain develops across the lifespan.  I have a strong interest in attachment and positive parenting/ positive discipline.  I believe that the “relationship” is the strongest catalyst for change from a psychological perspective.  It is up to the client to create goals and it is my job to help you find ways to meet them.  Through a collaborative relationship, I look forward to working with you, your child or your family.  I have a strong interest in individuals, families, couples as well as group therapy.

Kalm was created to represent peacefulness and joy and as a representation of my four beautiful daughters.  My oldest daughter actually created the name!

“Happiness is not the belief that we don't need to change; it's the realization that we can.”
